RCA Calls for Release of Journalist Evan Gershkovich

June 14, 2023 – The Rabbinical Council of America, the leading membership organization of orthodox rabbis in North America, praises the United States House of Representatives for unanimously passing a resolution calling for the release of Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich who was falsely arrested in Russia in March on charges of espionage. This resolution follows previous earlier appeals by the Biden administration. The RCA adds its voice demanding Gershkovich’s freedom from this wrongful detention and urges Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Roger Carstens, Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs, to work toward his immediate release.

Gershkovich, the son of Soviet-born Jews, is an American citizen.

The RCA also calls for the release of other Americans held in Russian detention: former US marine Paul Whelan, Marc Fogel, and journalist Vladamir Kara-Murza.
