Dear Chaverim,
We are devastated by the reports of death and destruction coming from Maui: over one hundred people killed, others unaccounted for, and the destruction of property and nature. As Torah Jews we are moved to express our care and compassion to all in need, imitating God about Whom it is said, “ve-rachamav al kol ma’asav” (Ps. 145:9) (Rambam, Hil. Avadim 9:8).
We encourage you to urge the members of your community to donate generously to support the many in Maui whose lives were devastated by the recent wildfires. A few charities you may want to consider are the Jewish Federation of North America’s Hawaii Wildlife Fund (Jewish Federations Launch Hawaii Wildfire Fund | The Jewish Federations of North America), Chabad of Maui’s Disaster Relief Fund (jewishmaui.raisegiving.com/causes/firerelief), and The American Red Cross (Donate Now – Online Donations | American Red Cross).
