RCA Commemorates 50th Anniversary of Nostra Aetate

The RCA has been involved in meetings with the Catholic Church for decades, guided by the principles outlined by the Rav, zt”l, in Confrontation.

Many Jewish organizations have issued responses to the 50th Anniversary of Nostra Aetate. The RCA worked with the Conference of European Rabbis and the Chief Rabbinate of Israel to prepare the following statement which is now being presented to the Executive Committee for approval. Upon approval by the RCA, the Conference of European Rabbis, and the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, it will be presented to the Vatican.

This response to Nostra Aetate has been commented upon by Rabbis Yitzchok Adlerstein, David Berger, Yaakov Bleich (Ukraine), Riccardo Di Segni, Mark Dratch, Arie Folger, Pinchas Goldschmidt, Jonathan Gutentag (Manchester), René Gutman, Barry Kornblau, Aryeh Ralbag, and David Rosen. It has also been reviewed by the Israeli Ambassador to the Vatican, Cardinal Koch (the chairman of the Pontifical Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews).

Rabbi Mordecai Willig and Chief David Rabbi Lau have approved it, as well.
