December 12, 2019 – The Rabbinical Council of America, the leading membership organization of Orthodox rabbis in North America, welcomes President Donald Trump’s Executive Order, which extends Title VI protections to Jewish students on college campuses from anti-Semitic attacks and harassment.
Rabbi Daniel Korobkin, president of the RCA, said, “We applaud the president for taking this bold move that sends a firm and clear message that the United States will not allow anti-Semitism to exist on university campuses. Our institutions of higher learning must not only be places of intellectual freedom and free speech, but also communities that are safe and free of bigotry and racism.”
Rabbi Binyamin Blau, vice president of the RCA, added, “At a time when Jewish students are confronting increasing anti-Semitic attacks instigated by the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, as well as increasingly violent and deadly expressions of anti-Semitism in the community at large, we thank President Trump for taking this important step.”
The RCA notes that the president’s order which was signed on the day of the horrific anti-Semitic shooting in a kosher grocery in Jersey City offered our community a ray of hope amid the darkness of the hatred and violence that once again enveloped our country. We pray that our government continues its efforts to protect all of its citizens.
