The Rabbinical Council of America, the largest membership association of Orthodox rabbis, is appalled to learn about the heavy damage caused by arson of the historic Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fish at Tabgha, located on the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. We are especially outraged that this attack may have been perpetrated by 16 young Jewish men. Throughout our history, we Jews have seen the destruction of our own holy places due to intolerance and prejudice; we cannot tolerate it when perpetrated against others, especially if perpetrated by our own. We call on the Israeli government to continue to pursue this matter vigorously and to work toward a society that respects all people, and protects diversity.
