| Whereas mixed marriage is a growing phenomenon that tears the fabric of Klal Yisrael, and the increasing number of mixed marriages leads to acceptance of it in the larger Jewish community and Whereas a new national survey conducted by the Graduate Center of the City University of New York indicates that there has been a drastic rise in the number of mixed marriages since 1985; The Rabbinical Council of America, in convention assembled, condemns the growing acceptance of mixed marriage. The Rabbinical Council of America declares that any individual in a mixed marriage, no matter how qualified, is ipso facto ineligible for Jewish communal leadership – lay or professional. We reiterate the Rabbinical Council of America’s position condemning spiritual leaders who officiate at mixed marriages. The Rabbinical Council of America encourages rabbis from their pulpits, educators in their classrooms and specifically within yeshiva high schools, parents in their homes, and social workers in their centers and agencies to discuss the subject of Jewish marriage and to encourage and prepare our youth for marriage to other Jews. We encourage our chaverim to foster the development of Jewish singles groups. |
