Rabbi Jonathan Gross
Beth Israel Synagogue, Omaha, Nebraska
Mar 17, 2014
In 2004, Rabbi Gross became the Senior Rabbi of Beth Israel Synagogue in Omaha, Nebraska. He is proud of his many accomplishments over the last 10 years, most notably in the construction of the Omaha community Eruv.
Before Rabbi Gross arrived in 2004, the century-old Orthodox community of Omaha was threatened with extinction. Today the congregation has a critical mass of young families, with 75 children active in the congregation, and is a relevant center of Jewish learning that every month attracts new members with varied experiences.
Rabbi Gross is a Visiting Professor of Judaism at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He founded an advocacy group called “Teens 4 Israel", and he is an active partner with the Food Bank for the Heartland. An early adapter to technology and social media, Rabbi Gross is always thinking of new ways to expand the synagogue walls and introduce the community to the wider world of Jewish learning.
