Rabbi Jay Weinstein became the full-time rabbi of the Young Israel of East Brunswick, NJ, on August 1, 2010. Rabbi Weinstein, his wife Sharon, and their two children, relocated to East Brunswick at the end of July from Dallas, Texas, where Rabbi Weinstein had served since 2007 as assistant rabbi at Congregation Shaare Tefilla.
Rabbi Weinstein is a native of Miami Beach, FL and received semikhah (rabbinic ordination) from Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, an affiliate of Yeshiva University (YU). He also obtained semikhah from Rav Zalman Nechemiah Goldberg of Jerusalem. Rabbi Weinstein holds a B.A. in accounting from YU's Sy Syms School of Business and a masters degree in special education from Columbia University.
Rabbi Weinstein is also a graduate of Ner Le’Elef’s Outreach Training Program and Ohr Torah Stone’s Strauss-Amiel Institute for Rabbinic Training. He is currently participating in the Legacy Heritage Fund Distinguished Rabbinic Fellowship through Yeshiva University Center for the Jewish Future. Prior to his role in Dallas, Rabbi Weinstein served as the Shabbat rabbi at Stern College. He has traveled to Belarus, San Francisco, Atlanta and other locations to teach Torah and work in the local Jewish communities.
