Chaplain Major Avrohom Horovitzy

Born in England, the young Rabbi Avrohom Horovitz made Aliyah with his family when he was ten years old. He holds an M.A degree in Jewish Studies from Touro College and received semicha from Rav Avrohom Pam.

Since entering active duty in July, 1998, he has served at Ft. Stewart, GA; Ft. Bragg, NC; South Korea; Ft. Benning, GA, Ft. Gordon, GA. He retired in August 2010 at Ft. McPherson, GA.

Chaplain Horovitz’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Freedom Medal, Enduring Freedom Medal, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Parachutist Badge, German Wings, Polish Wings and the Presidential Naval Superior Unit Medal.

His speech on the occasion of his receipt of the Hoenig military chaplaincy award at the RCA's 2006 convention was exceptionally memorable, and was the subject of an essay, Tending to an Army's Seoul, penned by our chaver, Moshe Rosenberg.

Chaplain Horovitz is active in the Orthodox Union and the Association of Jewish Outreach Professionals. He is currently the executive director of the American Friends of Yeshivat Dvar Yerushalayim.

He is married to the former Malkie Schneider of West Babylon, New York. They have six children and six grandchildren.
