Dear chaver,
In order to facilitate the Chief Rabbinate’s acceptance of your letters
concerning the Jewish and marital status of members of your
community, and to ensure its acceptance as per the Chief Rabbis’
arrangement with the RCA, we ask that you follow the following
guidelines.
1. Write your letter on synagogue or organization letterhead and
sign it in ink. Mention your RCA affiliation in your letter.
2. Include the person’s full legal name, Hebrew name, birthdate,
and passport/teudat zehut numbers.
3. The letter should be specific regarding the person’s Jewishness,
i.e., it should indicate whether the person was born to two Jewish
parents, to a Jewish mother only, or was converted. A letter stating only
that the person “is Jewish,” “is a member of the congregation,” “she
contributes a great deal to the shul,” or “he davens with us regularly,” is
insufficient.
4. The letter should explain the basis your knowledge that the
person is Jewish, i.e., personal knowledge, testimony, and/or
documentation.
