Jun 1, 1991 — X. RESOLUTIONS ON JEWISH EDUCATION

Whereas Torah study is central to Judaism and Jewish people hood
A. Therefore, the Rabbinical Council of America, in convention assembled,
urges its members to assert their primary role as teachers and students of Torah, serve as role models of personal commitment to the mitzva of Talmud Torah and urges its members to make Torah study the spiritual priority of our communities.
B. The Rabbinical Council of America, in convention assembled, proclaims that the possession of Torah knowledge implies a responsibility to impart that knowledge to others.
Maintains that all members should educate their congregants to view themselves as partners in the sacred enterprise of outreach to those as yet uninitiated and unschooled in Torah Judaism.
Calls upon its membership and congregants to increase financial support
for outreach programs and to personally participate in outreach activities.
C. Whereas the cost of day school and yeshiva education has increased dramatically, often indirectly limiting Jewish family size and preventing families from responding to other financial demands of Jewish life
Therefore, tl1e Rabbinical Council of America, in convention assembled,
calls upon our members to use their influence to broaden the base of communal, financial support for Jewish day schools in our respective communities and to allocate greater funds for student scholarships.

Commends the Jewish day schools that have in recent years welcomed and integrated into their student bodies Iranian and Russian children.
Calls upon our communities to provide the necessary funding to expand
these and other programs introducing Torah to immigrant families.
D. Whereas the twentieth century is a watershed of Jewish history and as
observant Jews we respond religiously to historical events
Therefore, the Rabbinical Council of America, in convention assembled,
strongly recommends the inclusion of the following items in our school curriculum:
1) The Holocaust -Insure that the Holocaust be studied in all its dimensions.
2) Zionism and Israel –
a) The serious study of political, practical and religious Zionism and the history of the state of Israel, emphasizing the meaning and role of Israel for the destiny of the Jewish people;
b) A greater emphasis on rnitzvot hateluyot ba’aretz as well as Torah and rabbinic sources which stimulate an emotional bond with Eretz Yisrael;
c) The State of Israel and the ingathering of the exiles be presented as a gift from God, momentous in their proportions and ramifications;
d) Urges that schools inculcate in the students an aspiration to study in Israel and make aliyah.
3) Growth of Torah Community –the development of Torah institutions and leadership throughout the world.
