RCA Condemns Antisemitism of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene

At a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Rabbinical Council of America, held by conference call, on Wed., Feb. 3, 2021, President Daniel Korobkin in the chair, and Reuven Tradburks acting on behalf of the secretary, the following items were decided:

President’s Report.
Daniel Korobkin reported on the progress of the new Madrikh and the sponsorship. Tradition will be doing a special Lamm Memorial Volume with opportunity to pay tributes to his legacy. The RCA is establishing a Canadian Friends of the RCA to enable tax deductible contributions from Canada. Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein of South Africa has initiated a meeting with the officers and with the membership. Valuable shiurim for the RCA membership recently have been given by Rav Schachter on Purim, Rav Baruch Simon on Minhagim and Rav Daniel Feldman on Kevod Haberiyot. The National Library of Israel has initiated contact offering a series of webcasts to acquaint our members to its resources. MK Tehilla Friedman initiated a meeting with a group of RCA officers and the Israel Commission members to consider a dialogue between diaspora rabbis and Israeli rabbis.

The following were approved unanimously for membership in the RCA:
Steven Jonathan Bergman, Chaim Bogopulsky, Adam Felsenthal, Tzvi Menachem Fischer, Yehuda Myers, Yosef Platt, Michael Reichel, Avraham Teitelbaum.

Gil Student reported on Social Media Committee. The committee is addressing the RCA’s media presence and social media presence. The first topic that will be tested will be lowering the rhetoric in disagreement. A proposal as to how to present this in the public sphere will be developed.

Ari Perl reported on the Rabbinic Welfare Committee. The committee is addressing how to be more helpful in supporting our members including employment help in contracts, interviewing etc and support of members who may be in need of professional help in various areas including legal or other types of needs.

Noah Cheses reported on a meeting of the Israel Commission with Marc Rosenberg, VP of Nefesh bNefesh to address concerns of bottlenecks in the aliya process. A meeting for the RCA membership with Marc Rosenberg on the topic of Rabbis making aliya is being scheduled for the near future.

Doniel Kramer suggested noting in the minutes the wonderful quality of the weekly membership email and acknowledged the efforts of Mark Dratch and Adam Dubin.

Rabbi Mark Dratch was appointed Executive Vice President of the RCA in September, 2012. In 2005, Rabbi Dratch founded JSafe: The Jewish Institute Supporting an Abuse Free Environment, an organization addressing issues of domestic violence, child abuse and institutional and professional improprieties in the Jewish community. He served as Instructor of Jewish Studies and Philosophy at the Isaac Breuer College of Yeshiva University from 2002-2012. Rabbi Dratch served as a pulpit rabbi for 22 years at Congregation Agudath Sholom, Stamford, CT; Shaarei Shomayim, Toronto; Kehillath Jesurun, New York, NY, and other pulpits. He served as both a Vice President and Treasurer of the RCA and a member of the Executive Board. He served as chair of Task Force on Rabbinic Improprieties, which worked to establish policies and guidelines for the RCA in dealing with allegations against one of its members, and was author of the Resolution on Rabbinic Improprieties. In addition to JSafe, Rabbi Dratch was involved in combatting abuse a member of the Leadership Council of the FaithTrust Institute, Seattle, WA, and is featured on a number of its training videos on issues of abuse in religious communities. He was a member of the Clergy Task Force of Jewish Women International and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Abuse and Religion. He served as Camp Rabbi at Camp Morasha and was a member of the Board of the American Friends of Nishmat. Rabbi Dratch served as the Orthodox Union's "Webbe Rebbe," answering “Ask the Rabbi” questions posed through their website. He has published many articles in scholarly, rabbinic and popular journals in English and Hebrew. Rabbi Dratch is a graduate of Yeshiva University (1979), its Ferkauf Graduate School (Jewish Education), Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (semicha) (1982), and Wurzweiler School of Social Work (MSW). He is married to Rachel Levitt Klein and is the proud father of four children, four stepchildren, and a grandfather of one.
