Jun 1, 1990 — Confronting Issues of Contemporary American Orthodoxy
| Whereas the contemporary American Jewish community finds itself facing many of the social and moral questions that currently confront the totality of American society; Whereas the contemporary Orthodox community necessarily faces additional issues and concerns that emerge from living a life committed to Halachik principle and ideal within a larger society that is not infrequently insensitive and antithetical to those very principles and ideals; Whereas it is axiomatic that Halacha provides the appropriate framework within which to face and, with God’s help, resolve the issues confronting us in contemporary society; The Rabbinical Council of America in convention assembled Calls upon the President of the RCA to create a committee from within the ranks of the Rabbinical Council of America, to identify issues of concern, research the relevant sources and offer a preliminary formulation to the Executive Committee of the RCA for determination. If, in the course of this research, Halachik issues emerge, these issues will be submitted to the Vaad Halacha of the RCA fro determination. It is to be the responsibility of the committee “to have the pulse” of the membership of the RCA in order to be fully responsive to the real issues confronting the contemporary American Orthodox community. |
