RCA Calls on All Involved In Peace Negotiations to Understand Involate Status of Jersualem
| Jun 1, 1997 — Status of Jerusalem WHEREAS, Jerusalem is the historic capital of the Jewish state; WHEREAS, generations of Jews have reaffirmed that status in daily prayer, as well as at prayer at special occasions, such as Passover and the Day of Atonement; WHEREAS, no competing claim even approaches the historic importance and length of the Jewish claim; and WHEREAS, Prime Ministers and Presidents of Israel have throughout history affirmed their commitment to Jerusalem as the undivided capital of tile Jewish state, We the members of the Rabbinical Council of America in convention assembled call on all involved in peace negotiations to understand the inviolate status of Jerusalem. Our sacred center is not subject for compromise, but must remain forever within Jewish hands. Certainly other religions must be respected and concern for their religious sensibilities shown, but Jerusalem is and always must be tile capital of the state of Israel. |
