The Rabbinical Council of America, the largest Orthodox rabbinical organization in the world, commends all of the law-enforcement personnel responsible for apprehending those allegedly involved in a terrorist attack that singled out the Jewish community of Riverdale, New York. Their vigilance and professionalism has averted a horrendous outcome. We join with our fellow citizens in expressing our gratitude to them.
We call on the clergy of Christian, Islamic, and all other faiths to join with us in condemning such terrorist attacks, no matter where they may occur. For it is our liberty and freedom that such terrorists target, often in the name of religion.
And we call on our Federal, State and local officials on every level to remain steadfast in pursuing, apprehending, and punishing, in accordance with the letter and spirit of the law, those who would destroy our shared cherished values.
In light of this shocking event we take note of the urgent need for all Americans to exercise proper precautions in preventing terrorist attacks. Constant vigilance is the price of freedom. Each of us must do our part to ensure that such heinous events not occur in this land, or anywhere else. Terrorists and their supporters, whether governments or private citizens, must know that the citizens of the United States are determined to stand against terror, in all its forms.
Most particularly, given the evident targeting of Jews in particular, we call on our fellow Jews to redouble their efforts to ensure the physical security of our people and institutions, in full consultation with local and national law-enforcement personnel.
God bless America
