The Rabbinical Council of America joins with our fellow citizens in expressing our heartfelt condolences and empathy to the families and community of Newtown, CT. The tragic murders of their children and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School defy imagination; we share their paralyzing grief. This tragedy calls on us to review the challenges to public safety that are endemic to our society. We urge parents and schools to sensitively support their children in their search for understanding and safety. Finally, we pray for the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy (60:20), “Your sun shall no more go down; neither shall your moon withdraw itself: for the Lord shall be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended.
