Rabbi Hershel Billet serves as the Rabbi of the Young Israel of Woodmere, New York. He has an undergraduate degree from Yeshiva University, semicha from its affiliated Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, and a masters degree in Jewish History from its Bernard Revel Graduate School.
He is a leading activist on behalf of Israeli and Zionist causes on both sides of the Green Line and a board member of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation. He is also a popular lecturer for the Genesis Foundation and under its aegis, he has conducted classes with Jewish members of Congress, professionals and college students.
A past president of the Rabbinical Council of America, Rabbi Billet remains strongly involved in its affairs, having also served as chairman of its Vaad Hakavod, its Israel Committee, its Katrina and Gush Katif relief committees, and much more. He is also active in the Orthodox Union, serving on its board and as a member of its Israel Commission.
His wife Rookie is principal of Maayanot Girls High School in Teaneck, New Jersey. They are the proud parents of 6 children, some of whom have made aliyah.
