Rabbi Chaim Marder has served as the Rabbi of the Hebrew Institute of White Plains since 1995, having formerly served as the Rabbi of Congregation Beth Sholom in Providence, RI and associate rabbi at the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale. He is a graduate of Yeshiva University, holds a Masters degree in Jewish History, and received his Rabbinical Ordination from RIETS, the rabbinical seminary of YU.
Rabbi Marder has served as a Vice President of the Rabbinical Council of America (he is presently financial secretary) and the Westchester Board of Rabbis, and is a member of the Orthodox Caucus. In addition to his work at the Hebrew Institute, he is also the associate-chair of the department of Leadership and Professional Training at YCT Rabbinical School, an open Orthodox Rabbinical Seminary.
During Rabbi Marder’s tenure, the Hebrew Institute of White Plains has a seen dramatic growth and revitalization and has become a model Orthodox synagogue in the New York area. Under his guidance, the Hebrew Institute continues to seek out ways to deepen the religious and spiritual lives of its congregants, both in and outside the synagogue walls. He has helped spearhead numerous community-building efforts, including the White Plains B’Yachad Series with the other synagogues in the community.
He developed a multifaceted Jewish studies program at the synagogue and in homes, and helps direct “Leisure Thursday”, a senior program organized and run by volunteer participants in the community, which has grown yearly to an outstanding program. He helped launch a synagogue-based Israel action committee, which has been coordinating efforts on behalf of Israel in White Plains and throughout Westchester. This effort has transformed into a community-wide enterprise with multiple programs in place and development in support of Israel.
He and his wife Suzie have 6 children (Shira, Ari, Akiva, Shoshanah, Ayelet and Yonina).
