The Jewish Woman and the Torah Community 1999

Jun 1, 1999 — The Jewish Woman and the Torah Community

Women have been responsible for the perpetuation of Jewish ideals and religious beliefs throughout our history. Their historical contribution of guaranteeing our continuity through their leadership in the home is clear. It is obvious that the participation of women is an indispensable ingredient in any effort to enhance the vitality of the Orthodox community. It is similarly obvious that our community must provide advanced opportunities for women’s educational and spiritual growth if they are to fulfill their responsibilities to our G-d and our community.

We therefore resolve that:

We shall urge the Orthodox community to increase opportunities for women to pursue and disseminate Torah knowledge and values.

We call upon Orthodox women to become more involved in shaping the discussions and decision-making that affect our community. The RCA and its members will continue to nurture and develop the talents of Orthodox women. We call for increased efforts, consistent with guidance of the Halachic Commission of the RCA.
