The Environment 1991

Jun 1, 1991 — III. ON THE ENVIRONMENT

Whereas our tradition teaches that human beings are granted a limited dominion, which is stewardship, over God’s creation, “L’avdah ul’shamrah” to tend it and to protect it, and this stewardship allows us to make proper use of it and preserve it for future generations,

Therefore, the Rabbinical Council of America, in convention assembled, supports ecological concerns such as fuel conservation requirements for homes, schools and businesses and improved mileage for automobiles. We endorse enforcement of laws for clean air policies, clean water policies, occupational safety and health and controls on toxic emissions, pollution and radioactive waste as well as recycling of waste.

We urge our communities to foster environmental education and consciousness.
