Rabbi Ephraim Polakoff currently serves at the rabbi of Congregation Bais Tefilah in Woodmere, NY. He also teaches Gemara and Chumash at the DRS Yeshiva High School for Boys in Woodmere, and Halacha at the SKA High School for Girls in Hewlett. Originally from Great Neck, NY, Rabbi Polakoff was raised in a rabbinic home, with his father, Rabbi Dale Polakoff, past president of the RCA, serving as the rabbi of the Great Neck Synagogue since 1988. After graduating high school, Rabbi Polakoff studied at Yeshiva Derech HaTalmud in Yerushalayim under Rav Chaim Ilson, one of the esteemed students of Rav Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, zt"l. He then attended Yeshiva University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Rabbi Polakoff continued his studies at the Ner Israel Rabbinical College in Baltimore, MD, where he received semicha in 2011. Concurrently, he attended classes at YU’s Azrieli Graduate School and graduated with a Master’s degree in Jewish Education in 2012. Before assuming the position of rabbi at Bais Tefilah, Rabbi Polakoff served as the assistant rabbi of the Young Israel of Staten Island and the Young Israel of Long Beach. Rabbi Polakoff’s passions are teaching Torah and creating meaningful relationships. He feels fortunate to be able to indulge in those passions in both his rabbinic and teaching careers. Rabbi Polakoff is married to Tova (nee Frank), originally from Teaneck, NJ, who is a beloved general and Judaic studies teacher at Tichon Meir Moshe High School in Far Rockaway. They are blessed with five wonderful sons Yisrael Meir, Zevy, Gavriel, Aharon, and Asher.
